Euroman’s 2012 Journey Back Home to Jackson
Euroman's 2012 Journey back home to Jackson
Euroman and Grover having recovered from several illnesses and injuries well rested a once again are ready to save lives protect the innocent and search for true love. Since leave Tenn. they have spent much time in CCM land. Attended the famous Joan weekend, traditional Christmas party, visited with friends at Sax’s and refreshed their spirits at Wednesday night climbing and Sammie time. They will now return to their adopted winter home of Jackson.
Thursday, December 29th 2011
After returning from the CCM Daks trip which included 2 days of hiking and 1 day of ice The superheroes departed from the Goat home by noon. They made excellent leaving Ct., passing quickly through NY and into PA. Euroman decided to make an unannounced stop at CCM member in Bloomsburg Pa... Euroman makes his stop on occasion on his east-west journeys. Always good to see CCM members and check her progress in the alternative medical field. Euroman pulled into rest area near Ohio boarder around 11:00.
Friday December 30th 2011
Euroman was back on road by 3:00am. He made Chicago by 2:00 pm where he had a reunion with Chicago Volunteer. He was given tour of CV’s hometown and shelter for the night. Euroman felt much like Gus stopping in Ogallala to visit with Clair before continuing to drive the heard north to WY.
Sat. December 31st, 2011
Euroman left in darkness, a sad departure. Travel was slowed by heavy fog an icy roads. Euroman choose to take state highways instead of interstates. Perhaps this was a mistake. His route took him across a windy northern Nebraska. Late in the day the Euroman heard and felt load thumping, he thought it was merely the rough road so he continued. When the thumping did not go away he thought he should investigate. As he got out there was strange smell of burnt rubber. There was not much left of the right rear tire. Since it was New Year’s Eve in the middle of nowhere land he had little hope of tire shop being open. Euroman figure it would be easier just to swap in the spare. Not so easy. The spare was rusted in place under the Euro. After much delay spare was on with Grover’s help. The team was rolling again. After another 100 miles a similar sound was developing. Euroman grew considered the Euro was eating up another tire. His first thought was, Oh just keep going when it blows so be it. Instead he pulled over to take a look. Tire looked fine. Euroman was confused. Before he got back in he gave a quick check of the lug nuts. All 5 were loose and almost completely out. This is the last time Euroman lets Grover tighten the lug nuts. After another delay they are heading west again. He receives
Much welcomed midnight New Year’s call from his daughter. Euroman finds deserted spot to rest.
Sun. January 1st. 2012
2 hours later Euroman is driving. He wanted to end this drive as quick as possible. The hours drag on and on, Euroman should never have stopped, he was in groove, now he is even more tired. He arrives back in his adopted home by noon. He has rented a family room at local hotel. Larger than needed but ready for CCM guests. Euroman unpacks, settles in, walks around town, pickups mail and food. Sammie time.
Monday, January 2nd
Euroman continues to setup room. He takes Grover for skin up Snow King local ski area. 1,800 ft. Mountain as usual is empty. There are more people skiing than riding stinkin lifts, this is Euroman country. It’s always a good intro to the area. He does more food shopping. He also stops at tire shop to get new tire. He is told Euro is badly out of alignment. $235 later Euro is fixed.
Tuesday, January 3rd
Euroman is establishing his routine. Up by 6:00, workout for one hour, eat, study for two hours, and ski. This time Euroman takes Grover to base of the pass. They skin up old access road. Avy conditions are high and snow is heavy. Not the best, not the quality Euroman is accustom too. Back at Euromotel he meets his neighbor. He is older guy, Euroman asks if he is also here for the winter. Neighbor says no he lives there year round. Euroman thinks this is strange, neighbor is serious lift skier. He talks of things Euroman does not understand. He is also a smoker, Euroman does not think they will bond. Sammie time.
Wednesday, January 04, 2012
Euroman continues morning routine except he has dental cleaning appointment. This
never goes well, Euroman is not let down. They want to pull Euroman’s last molar,
Euroman says no. They settle for another appointment to fix an old cavity since they couldn’t find a new one. Dentist are the center of evil.
Thursday, January 05, 2012
6:00 Euroman experimented making scrambled eggs in the microwave. He decided to skin local slope to accumulate vertical. This was race day. About halfway up was the start of the slalom course which was right in Euroman’s skin path. As he approached one of the race officials tells him to wait. Euroman knows this is a mistake, it’s about 50 yards uphill to the other side of the course and only about 15 sec between racers. Euroman would have skinned partly across than waited but he didn’t want to upset race official. Next racer leaves gate, official tells Euroman to cross. As he gets near the race path he hears the warning beeps. Another race official on the other side yells for Euroman to stop. Except Euroman is now right in racer’s path. Euroman is confused by must act quickly or get taken out by next racer. He backs up just as racer goes by. Euroman finishes skin to summit. On the way down he passes several skinetts going up, he decides to do another lap. He is exhausted after only 2,400 ft. Euroman picks up mail which includes a new hotplate for morning omelets. A has phone call from $carol announcing they will be out Feb 10th. With Brother Rick on 12th, Ant on the 17th, Mo on the 18th, Goat and Pretty Boy to follow. CCM BC skiing trip is on. Euroman also receives call from rocky ranger Cheesecake who is waiting for snow in Tahoe. It was good to catch up with ranger friend. Also made phone called to CV.
Friday. January, 6th
Euroman made his first omelet, excellent. After morning routine he took Grover up to the pass to check out conditions. They skied in to a lower area first. Euroman was not impressed with condition. Avy danger was considerable, after checking the snow Euroman knew why. There was only patchy powder where the sun had not made a crust. Euroman played around for a short time and left to try higher up the pass. He found bit more powder bit still rotten snow underneath. He made one short run and departs for safer ground. Sammie time.
Saturday, January 07, 2012
Euroman get to do what he does best. Cold morning, temps low teens. Euroman is concerned he will freeze solid on today’s mission. He drives over to Habitat for Humanity’s construction site on the east side of Jackson near the local ski area.
He had called the other day to volunteer. They are building 5 homes. Why they are building them in the middle of winter is a question but Euroman is here just to help. He is given to one of the paid workers a carpenter from Fla. They are tasked to start putting up the wooden siding. Euroman is given directions by Fla... But his main task is keeping warm. He has several layers and heat packs. Its afternoon before temps are tolerable and that is short lived. HFH crew is made up of foreman 2 paid workers, about 6 volunteers and 2 of the new home owners. Euroman finds it ironic putting up low income housing among all the wealth of Jackson. The day goes quickly, Euroman has done something worthwhile and made a new friend from Fla. Euroman makes his daily stop at organic food store for dinner supplies, goes back to EuroMotel to call CV. Negotiations are underway for a possible visit. Sammie time.
Sunday, January 08, 2012
Slow start, cleaning EuroMotel, need refine space for visitors. He made it by 11:00 to skin SK. A good day Euroman was feeling stronger. Did 2 laps. Met many of his kind. Afterwards finally got wash done, repaired skins, continued mega research in to cure for his latest aliment. Euroman refuse to believe the standard medical community. Euroman has also revamped his diet which still needs modification as he is losing weight. While he still not eat the flesh of animals he also has removed cheese products and limited wheat, Salsa had become a main ingredient to most meals/ Late night call to CV, negotiation are continuing with CV on Jackson visit.
Monday, January 09, 2012
Euroman forgot about his dentist appointment this morning, he wishes they forgot the reminder call. Why are Dentists allowed to stick multiple objects in your mouth than tilt one upside down and pour water in your mouth? Is this not illegal. Dentist wanted also to shove rubber block to keep jaw open so Euroman could not swallow insure certain death. Euroman man refused. All this to replace a filling that was only put in a year ago. The rest of day Euroman just tried to recover. This is the time of year to apply for ranger positions, Euroman has so far put in for about 10. Later in evening he reacquaints himself with JHB over a traditional mega burrito and sammie.
Tuesday, January 10, 2012
Ruff night of semi sleep. Euroman has been reasonable successful in eliminating lower back pain with secret stretching exercise but this has not translated into better sleep. Omelet morning. Traditional birthday called to Carrie adult. Euroman drove over to local hospital for a lunch time seminar on sport related overuse injuries. Euroman was having trouble finding the classroom, he did find the cute female in charge of seminar. She smiled at Euroman, he was not sure if this was “I like you” smile or “I what to increase attendance at seminar” smile. Either case it worked. Interesting hour, a PT was spokesperson, gave insight into system mechanics involved in back, hip knee pain. Afterwards Euroman took Grover quick skin up Sk as snow began to fall. He also received call from MO adjusting arrival date. Sammie time.
Euroman thoughts…. Euroman thanks Pretty Boy, Goat, $Carol for generously giving providing shelter to the superheroes and to all others who offered….. While Euroman was sad to leave CCM family and Keri Kid he was not sad to leave the crowded northeast. Too much traffic, too many people, too much stuff. Euroman is no longer use to so much stuff. It feels strange….. Euroman thinks he needs a more permanent home, perhaps to rent some year round even if he only uses it a few mouths….. Euroman feels he is not doing enough to save lives and protect the innocent, this needs to be address….. Just before leaving the CT. Euroman was diagnosed with a mild form of UC. The medical doctors stick to the company line that they don’t know the cause and it will never goes away and foods have no effect. Euroman does not believe this. He knows there is a cause and effect for everything, he will search. Diet is the first step.
Wednesday, January 11, 2012
Very cold morning, 2 degrees, -12 with wind. Grover is ascared of working outside with HFH. Euroman arrived to build site at 9:00. Today he was put with young guy to work on outside sliding once again. Euroman wondered why he was not given the warm cushy inside work instead of Fla. Grover reminded him volunteers are expendable. By end of day Euroman’s core temp was just above hypothermia. He still was able to finish the day’s task. On way back to EuroMotel he stops at mailbox to pick up probiotics. He will start probiotic – prebiotic regiment immediately. Negotiations were completed with CV, arrival on Monday. Sammie time.
Thursday, January 12, 2012
Steal cut oat morning, Euroman will need lots to keep warm. Euro is on strike, doesn’t want to move. In drive, press on gas, lots of noise no forward movement. Euroman drops to low, it slowly creeps forward. Euroman eventually arrives at HFH site at 9:00, temp is -9. Euroman is ready this time - T-shirt, ninja top, another long sleeve cotton shirt, followed by puffy followed by hooded sweatshirt. Stretch fleece pants, jeans and 200 wt, fleece on legs. 2 woolly hats. 2 sets of heat packs in each mitten. Toe warmers. Dressed for battle he steps out of Euro. Euroman is now sliding guy, the expert. He was joined by 10 amer-corp volunteers. These are college age kids from calif. They don’t seem to know too much but very willing to help. They look to Euroman for guidance, silly people. They are not as prepared as Euroman and need warming breaks. It never gets out of the single digits all day. Euroman is put on charge of 2 amer-corps. His team remains productive till the end. Euroman was able to keep comfortable till the end, much better than yesterday. Back to EuroMotel. Sammie time.
Friday, January 13, 2012
Omelet morning. Cold again. Slowly moving for a ski day into one of Euroman’s favorite spots, Coal Creek. He was not disappointed. Found powder, not the best, but the best so far.
Saturday, January 14, 2012
HFH morning. Worked on sliding with same crew from Thursday. Made good progress until Euroman departed at noon for a run. Afterwards he strolled downtown for mail pickup. Euroman came upon a sign for an office building that read “We Don’t Rent Pigs”
Euroman realized why he was in drawn to Jackson. This was the same sign Gus took from Lonesome Dove on his journey to Montana.
Sunday-Monday, January 15-16th
Very identical days. Omelet & Oats, Workout, skin up SK. Euroman was promised 5-6” of new stuff, about 1” maybe. The cost of drugs Euroman needs for his UC is significantly more in the west than the east. He took his business to Canada, ordered a 6 month supply which was less than half the US price. Next Euro went in to have tires rotated so get good tires were on the front. He was told one more tire was bad. Euroman is not happy. This has turned out to be a very expensive January with medical, dental and Euro bills. Needs to pick up food items and prepare for CV arrival. Snowing, a new pattern seems to have started. A good evening with CV.
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
Early start, Drive over to Idaho falls for foot doctor. Euroman wants to clear up all medical issues before leaving in a March. Snowing going over Teton pass, predictions are for big amounts. Euroman will wait and see. On way stopped on pass to take one run. Euroman found pockets of untracked powder, still not the quality of 2 years ago. Took CV on short walking tour of center of Jackson. Movie might. Snow continues.
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
Women and children need to be off the streets. The mega storm of the century has started. Steal Oats for breakfast. Euroman readies for Day outside with HFH. He arrives as storm is intensifying. He is given of choice of work assigns, in or outside. Euroman chooses outside, he is alone. After a few hours he is pulled inside to help with installing kitchen cabinets. Local forecasters are predicting 50 inches. The pass is closed due to avalanche danger. This is the winter was meant to be. Amer-corp crew leaves at noon to escape back to their cabins south of town. End of day Euroman heads back to EuroMotel to meet CV who has spent day walking around Town gathers supplies. Movie night, Cowboys and Aliens. It’s no Lonesome Dove. Snows continue. To the Chief and Dennis, Sammie time.
Thursday, January 19, 2012
Still snowing heavily. Euroman decided to walk to HFH build site and let the Euro rest. Only 4 people at the build site. Much time spent shoveling around the buildings. Euroman did more cabinet work. Walk back to EuroMotel to meet CV.
Friday, January 20, 2012
Omelet and Steel Oats did seem to help today. At least 4 feet of new snow. Pass is closed to traffic. First skin up was good he passed a bunch of stinkin Bootpackers. Nothing worse than a stinken bootpacker except for a lift riding bootpacker. Second skin Euroman totally ran out of energy. Barely made it to top. He made the most of the run down found some fun tight tree. Afterwards meet CV at a local brew pub for nachos and Sammie. Another arriving for Sat, & Sun.
Sat., January 21, 2012
Road up the past is closed. Euroman was going to park at the bottom and skin the old pass rd. up. The road to the parking area is covered. Chains would be needed. Euroman is not in the mood to put on chains to skin a road. He decides to head back to town. He wonders aimlessly around elk refuge for the afternoon wondering if he will hear from Tomcat. On his walk Euroman has decided to totally revamp diet again and get back to basics, since desired results have not occurred and actually gotten worse.
Sunday, January 22, 2012
Omelet morning. Euroman and CV will go into the park to check conditions and perform recon work for CCM team. Euroman will skin, CV will snowshoe. They first probe into base of Minus 25 than head over to Maverick. A very nice day under sunny skies. Back to EuroMotel for Sammie hour.
Monday, January 23, 2012
Awesome. 3 eggs. Euroman has temporarily given up on steel oats. He decides to go back to the park. Grover declines again. Euroman takes his time skinning up Peak Minus 25. Clouds are low. He skins cautiously up 1,200 feet. Still nervous about slide conditions he stays in the trees as much as possible. Once Euroman turns to downhill mode this is forgotten, Super awesome deep powder bouncing through the trees, the best he has seen. He switches to uphill this time skins a bit further up. Has lunch in a beautify location behind a pine with snow falling. Euroman knows why backcountry beats any resort. Grover will be jealous. Euroman starts on run 2, also excellent. The snow is now starting to cover the up track. Visibility is shrinking, Euroman knows just head down an east to get out, but it’s a weird feeling being out alone. Euroman arrives back at Euro.
Still no word from Tomcat. Sammie time.
Tuesday, January 24th
Very restless night of non-sleep. Euroman took his time getting out. Drove up to the pass. Many cars Euroman was bummed until he started skinning when he realizes there were no skiers on his side of the pass. He did a couple of short runs in the best snow ever. Euroman for some reason was very tired more than he should have been took a break back at the Euro. Felt better and did a few more runs. He did see a couple of stinkin bootpackers with their resort gear. They should stay in their own area. Euroman still has not heard from tomcat. He wonders is Tomcat ashamed to introduce Euroman to his lift-rider crowd.
Wednesday, January 25, 2012
A better nights rest. Habitat day. Snowing of course. He is put on repair of outside window framing. This is easy work, he is able to drifts in and out house to keep warm and dry as weather conditions go downhill. After lunch Euroman is put on the high scaffold to operate Skill saw helping the foreman side upper part of house. Wind, snow rain is not making Euroman happy. He needs extra layers and heat packs while foreman works without gloves. Euroman does not understand, he wonders could he an alien or another superhero. Glad when day ends. Wednesday night happy hour. Euroman has made contact with Tomcat. They will meet at the brewery. A very enjoyable evening with a CCM brother. Several Sammies, nachos and toasting Chief and Dennis. Tomcat was escorted to local bus stop to make sure he made it safely back to the den of the lift-rider.
Thursday, January 26, 2012
Another snowy day. Euroman was back at HFH. Once again working high on scaffold for the morning. Local realtor donated pizzas for lunch. After lunch Euroman switched to dry pair of mittens and worked down low on sliding. By end of day he was soaked.
Friday, January 27, 2012
Eggs and oatmeal. Euroman took CV up to the park for skin and snowshoe into pristine frozen lake. A beautiful area, excellent choice. On the skin back Euroman decided to ski some treed moraines. CV waited below. At the top Euroman switched over to downhill mode. As he was about to start down there was a load rumble. Euroman was startled, he could not tell if it was coming from his slope which he could not believe or another. He could see no movement or cracks in snow so he quickly took off. He did not go back up. Sammie time.
Saturday, January 28, 2012
Hot plate broken, no eggs. Euroman when back to park, much better than crowds at the pass. This time there was actually a rangerette at fee station. Euroman slowing pulled up, he can see the Rangerette notices Euroman’s nps access stickers on front windshield. He hopes this will get him in for free. Not this time. Euroman skins back to moraine area. He makes 3 runs before stinkin BD skins lose all there sticking power. He has no choice but to retreat. He drives to another untested area and will snowshoe in to do exploratory work for future ascents. The only thing worse than snowshoeing is snowshoeing in AT boots. Still it proves a worthwhile venture, he gains much knowledge of terrain. Later that evening he visits once again with JHB and some other Jacksonites
Sunday, January, 29
This is CV backcountry experiment day. There are mixed results. CV rents BC gear at local shop. It is decided to skin SK as a way to familiarize CV with gear and get reacquainted with skiing. They make 2 skin runs before CV tires. Euroman makes another skin to the top where he meets a HFH worker. Sammie hour back at EuroMotel.
Monday, January 30th
Another exploration day. Euroman gets a late start heads into the park. He skin into
A secluded lake which is surrounds by treed hills which have great potential. Euroman marks this down as area to come back to with CCM people. Euroman is happy with his findings
Tuesday, January 31, 2012
HFH day. Euroman is still siding guy working with the paid guy from Fla. They make good progress. Euroman as usual takes lunch with Fla who is trying to learn how to ski. Euroman offers to take him for a tour of backcountry on his day off. When Euroman returns to EuroMotel he picks up CV to go look at potential rental cabin in Alpine 30 mins south of Jackson. Turns out to be a really nice cabin in a beautiful location. It has possibilities.
Wednesday, February 01, 2012
Food running low, need to invent a lunch. Back to Habitat. Euroman is now in charge of sliding crew. They think for him as some type of expert. First assignment is to bang ice off the scaffold, Euroman takes on this task to set an example for his people. After ice is cleared Euroman takes another volunteer to work on the scaffold nailing siding in place and taking measurements which he gives to 2 others on the ground who do the cutting. This works well until they run out of scaffold. Foreman tells Euroman to rig additional platforms higher up and come up with make shift railing. Euroman is unsure how this is to work but doesn’t want to lose the confidence of his crew. He invents something that looks responsible and his people are impressed. As the day ends snow is falling. Euroman gathers enough energy to skin half of SK before going back to EuroMotel. Sammie time. To the Chief and Dennis.
Thursday, February 2nd
Yet another day at HFH. Euroman’s crew is now finely tuned. They start again by banging ice off scaffold. They make good progress in warmer temps. Euroman continues to be impressed by Ameri people. Once again scaffolding needs to be raised. Euroman would feel better with climbing harness or base jumping rig on. 4:00 is clean up time.
Spends night with CV at Mexican place at town center.
Friday, February 03, 2012
Incredible day for the Superheroes. Omelet morning, food has run out. Euroman went off to ski in the park. First he needs to take care of more tire issues which never seem to stop. Euroman has been eying up a area to the east of where he usually skis in the park. It looked like good tree skiing. Grover wanted in on this adventure. They started skinning on some previous tracks. As they ascend a gully with a massive slope on their left Euroman was uneasy being in this terrain trap. Grover suggested exiting up the lower angle right hand slope. Euroman wondered who put in the other track given the avy conditions. They quickly reached a ridge line and followed that to a series of rolling summits. After 1,000 vertical they reached the summit of peak 7556. They saw no other tracks since leaving the gully. Euroman believes this will be the first ski descent of this ridge. He can’t think why anyone else would come up for this type of terrain, given what else is around. After appropriate photos the team was ready for the descent. The area is heavily treed. Euroman quickly learns to avoid potted and pitted cover this is where trees slough has occurred and the snow has consolidated. The smooth surface is where the powder lies. He makes 3 400 hundred drops before fully descending. He chooses a line that totally avoids the gully opting for trees to the west. No tracks anywhere except his and some elk. He names his new route “For his people of the CCM”. Back at Euro, awesome day, Sammie time.
Euroman thoughts….. Euroman never thought he could work construction in such cold temps. It’s not like skiing or hiking where one is always moving generating your own heat, here you’re standing, Layering is key…. Euroman continues to lose weight, 10 pds total. Partly from not feeling like eating and partly confused at what is good to eat. If Euroman was to believe everything he has read on the UC topic nothing is safe to eat….. Euroman is not happy with CT. GI doc….. Euroman awaits arrival of CCM people. $Carol, Carol$, Brother Rick and Larry Mo. Much route surveying in preparation for his people….. Euroman is growing concerned about some park….
Saturday, Feb. 4th
Very slow start, temps -7, feeling weak. More exploration in the park to find untapped powder supplies. Skinned around with CV. Warmed up with nice sun. Sammie hour at brewery.
Sunday, February 05, 2012
Cold again – 5. Euroman went back into park to further explore area from yesterday.
He skinned up steep trees to a plateau than another steeper section not sure where this was leading. He was following cute little coyote tracks, suddenly cute little coyote track turned into fresh very large scary big cat tracks. Mt. Lion. It was like the wolfman transformation. Grover got very nervous know if cat jumped in Euroman’s back he would be the first causality. They both decided bets to move quickly through this area, The ski down was somewhat disappointing in the quality of powder. Stiff, crusty, intermittent powder. Pass cat tracks again quickly. Sammie time.
Monday, February 06, 2012
More Cold. Euroman hiked up packed out trail he had down during the summer. Followed creek bed. Very very cold. Hand warmers were barely helping. Trail pass through avy area, since snow had settled Euroman was not very concerned still he moved quickly. Did the same on return leg. He never got warm, never stopped moving over the 7 plus miles. Rest of day was spent starting to prepare for his Peru trip end of Feb. Always the big event of the day is going to check mail at UPS mailbox since this is the only time all year he gets to do it, Kmart for more hand warmers, Dollar store for pretzels.
Tuesday-Wednesday, February 07-8th, 2012
Two very cold mornings, -12 range. Euroman will need to add a layer for HFH days.
His crew was taken away from him and now is an independent contractor working on special projects. Exterior window framing, porch ceilings, ice removal. Euroman believes he likes working alone, more freedom. Ameri crew is half way through their
Deployment just another month before they leave. Euroman has learned much about them and their mission. Weds. Night happy hour at brew pub. To the Chief and Dennis.
Thursday, February 9th
Warmer day low teens. Euroman heads back to pass to check conditions for CCM arrivals. Excellent day. Only few others around. Euroman skied the trees in peace.
Powder was acceptable more will be need for his people. 5 runs 2,200 ft. Sammie time.
Friday, February 10, 2012
Preparation day for 1st of CCM folks. Euroman took Euro in for another tire repair, nail.
Perhaps construction site is not a safe parking area. Snowing, 3-6 inches, perfect to refresh slopes. EuroMotel is put in order, frig full of Sammies. Pickup $Carol Carol$ at 7:00. Traditional Sammie hour and discussion of next day’s ski venture.
Saturday, February 11, 2012
Euroman up early, omelets all around. Off to ski the pass. Excellent powder in the trees, 2300 vertical. Short Sammie time Back to town for supply run and for some reason the $Carols felt the need to acquire helmets. Brew pub for complete Sammie time. More helmet shopping. Attempted to see Banff films, no tickets, sold out……
Sunday, February 12, 2012
$carol in charge of eggs. Euroman and Grover took the band of merry CCMer’s went off to conquer Peak 7556 once again. This time they would descend the much steep west face. The first half of the descent went reasonable well. The second half not so. Carol$ struggled but persevered. The foursome finished in fine style. Another first descent. Back to Euroman for Sammie. Back to EuroMotel for more celebration. Out to airport to pick up next CCM arrival, Brother Rick. To test his avy skills. A beacon was placed in the Euro, BR was given another and told to find the car with the beacon or he would have to walk back town. He passed the test. Another Sammie time.
Monday, February 13, 2012
Omelets for 5. Euroman decided to bring the team to one of his favorite location on the other side of the pass. 1.5 mile skin along a creek bed leads to a hug bowl and aspen slope. A stormy day added to the atmosphere. 2 runs down the aspen fields in excellent powder. 2,200 feet. Sammie time at the Euro. Some supply shopping than formal Sammie hour.

Valentine Day - Out for breakfast to all you can eat resturant for 6.99. Euroman was unimpressed with additional 3.00 juice 4 oz of OJ and stale pancakes. After this ordeal the CCM crew spilt up. The $carol’s and CV did a tour of Jackson while BR and Euroman did a tour of powder. Euroman took BR to pass. As they exited the Euro Euroman realized he did not have his beacon. He blamed $ for this error since it is believed that $ was the one to suggest the all you can eat restaurant, changing Euroman’s morning setup routine, $ denies this accusation. Euroman at first tells BR that he is comfortable skiing this area without his beacon. He then realizes that should BR be buried he cannot help. After some discussion and Euroman’s assurance to Br that he has skied these areas many times alone and they would not venture outside the safety of the trees they both agree to continue with the day. Incredible is not the word. Lots of new powder and nobody else around. Floating through fluffy powder, so much fun. Euroman spotted a treed area he had always wanted to ski and never seen anyone ski either. They skinned up. The descent was even better than could ever be expected. Several runs, 2,200 vertical. Back to Euro for Sammie time. Back to EuroMotel to meet rest of CCM and additional Sammie time. Mexican dinner out. Star Trek movie night.
Wednesday, February 15, 2012
Rough night at EuroMotel. Hot and nosy upstairs neighbors sent Euroman out to Euro for peace and quit. Euroman Omelets to start day.. CV & Carol$ departed to practice on local slopes. Euroman, $Carol and BR went to the park. Their goal was Maverick. Chilly start. 2 mile skin to base. New snow made travel slow, much trail breaking. Euroman could tell this was not his day. He had taken several glucose tablets it was not enough. After 3.5 hr. he was fading. At 1:00 he had to stop with hypoglycemic attack. A few hundred vertical from the summit they switched over to downhill mode. Euroman consumed some food and drink which brought him slightly back to life. The downhill run was unbelievable, the best powder ever. This was a 30-35 degree treed slope. Floating down 2,000 ft., awesome day. Euro for Sammie time. Into to town to pickup
CV and Carol$ at stinkin lift area. Sammie hour at EuroMotel complete with Wednesday night pizza. Toasting the Chief and Dennis.
Thursday, February 16, 2012
Last day for $Carol team. Omelets. Very cold morning -8. Slow start. Back to Coal Cr. Area. It appeared to be a poor choice, for some reason the beautiful powder in the aspens of 3 days ago turn to sun crust. Euroman was most disappointed in his selection, everything in the open was crusty, the trees offered somewhat better conditions. After one run Carol team gave up. Euroman and BR decided to try skiing a heavily treed north facing slope. They were back in conditions of previous days, excellent powder on a steep treed run. Most fun. Another 2,000 ft day. Sammie time at the Euro followed by final Brew pub for CCM team.
Friday, February 17
Up early to take $Carol team to airport in snowstorm. Later in morning Euroman and BR drove back to park for easy skin into lake Euroman had scoped out last week. Much atmosphere with snow falling. They skied several runs down a somewhat short treed hill. A good way to end BR’s week. Sammie time at Euro as usual. Back to town to refuel, check mail and pick up a Growler of Snake River Larger for Sammie hour.
Saturday. February 18th
Another morning to get BR to airport. Euroman now prepares for arrival of Mo Man on Monday and for next adventure.. Euroman must get ready to Save lives, protect the innocent and search for true love in Southern Peru. He leaves on the 25th with another organization to provide medical care to some coastal villages. When he returns on March 5th he will depart his Jackson home for RAM clinics in California. After replenishing some supplies Euroman rested.
Euroman thoughts….. Euroman is feels very lucky to have some many good friends. The thanks $Carol team and Brother Rick for coming out to visit and for supplying Euroman with dinners, fuel, Sammies, a Growler and many good times both on and off the snow….. Euroman would like a permanent home, he just doesn’t know where….
As winter moves on he becomes skeptical about the summer positions…. He will miss his CCM ski partners…. Happy 74th Rev. Al.
Euroman came upon a sign for an office building that read “We Don’t Rent Pigs” eEuroman realized why he was in drawn to Jackson.
He skin into A secluded lake which is surrounds by treed hills which have great potential.
Tuesday, February 14, 2012
Valentine Day - Out for breakfast to all you can eat resturant for 6.99. Euroman was unimpressed with additional 3.00 juice 4 oz of OJ and stale pancakes. After this ordeal the CCM crew spilt up.
