I'm not sensitive about my accidents, I'm sensitive about being [considered] a bad or foolish climber. Apart from the avalanche, and the ice climbing thing -those were my fault- the others were not my fault.

From Euroman's Airborne Buddy,

Subject: FW: Louisiana Coast Remote Area Medical clinic scheduled!

Hello Friends; Remote Area Medical (RAM) is going to be having a 3 day clinic in the New Orleans area August 27th through Sunday the 29th. This is the group that I have volunteered with for a number of years now. I have traveled with them to Tennessee, Kentucky, Los Angeles, Honduras and Haiti as well as volunteering with them the last time they were here in New Orleans back in the spring of 2006.

They are coming back to the New Orleans area and are in need of volunteers. All kinds of volunteers; Medical, Dental, Vision and General help. This is a total volunteer group who travels around the country and around the world to provide free medical, dental and vision services to those in need. All volunteers pay their own travel expenses and pay for their own lodging and food (usually food during the clinic is provided but not always). 100% of the money RAM spends goes directly to providing services to those who need the help.

Anyone can walk into the clinic (first come, first serve) and get a health check up (occasionally mammograms, pap smears, minor blood work, medications, etc depending on what is available at each individual clinic site). Anyone can walk in and see a dentist and get teeth cleaning, extractions, fillings and occasionally root canals and dentures can be made. Anyone can walk in and get an eye examination, pick out a pair of frames and 2 hours later pick up a pair of new eyeglasses to take home with them. All of these services are provided TOTALLY FREE OF CHARGE!

RAM does not care who you are, where you come from, what your beliefs are or what your income is. The only thing they ask is that if you can afford to pay for the services that you don't obtain these services from RAM in order to allow RAM to provide more services to those who cannot afford the services.

In order for RAM to provide these services to those in need a large volunteer force is needed. If you are a Doctor, Nurse, EMT, Nursing Assistant, Dentist, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, Eye Doctor, Ophthalmologists, Optician or Ophthalmic Technician or a General Volunteer you are needed to help with this clinic.

Just because you are not a medical person does not mean that you are not needed. Roughly 10 general volunteers are needed for each medical professional in order to pull off a clinic like this. No matter who you are your help is needed. Help is needed not only during the clinic but 2 days prior to help with set up and 1 day after to help with take down.

Please see the email below and check out RAM's website at www.ramusa.org if you are able to give a couple hours of your time to help our neighbors.

Hope to see you there!
Sincerely;
Mitch
